Got Pictures?

Do you take lots of pictures?  With the convenience of having a camera on almost every cell phone now, more and more people are taking even more photos then ever before. You don't need to remember to bring the "good" camera with you to an event and even every day ordinary photos are being documented.  Now here is the question, what do you do with those photos after you take them? Do you put them on facebook, instagram or twitter?  Maybe if they were cute or funny. Do they get uploaded to your computer or backup hardrive with thought of printing some of them some day? How many actually get printed so they can be looked at in the future?

Scrapbooking used to be pretty popular but you needed lots of time to make a layout just right, or needed the perfect photos to use and your average snap shots and life just didn't make the cut to put all that time into.

That has changed!

Your everyday life are things you want to remember. The cute fun stuff your kids do, or the places you visit with your spouse. Maybe even just the traffic jam caused by a gaggle of geese crossing the road! (yes, that did happen to us just last week, my son didn't find the irony of them honking at the cars nearly as funny as I did)  The Project Life style of scrapbooking will get those photos off your phone and into an album so that they can be looked back upon even after you have upgraded to a new phone.

And it is EASY! Really EASY! And it doesn't take much room, supplies or money!  All you need to get started is an album, protectors, a kit and your photos. That's it! You can embellish more if you want but it's cute enough without the need for more and your pictures will be treasured like they should be.

Wouldn't it be great to look back in 10 years and see how much has changed, (or stayed the same!)
Let me help you get those memories out of your phones and computers and into something you can hold and keep.

It's here!!!!!

And no it's not the new catalog. Not yet anyway. What I am over the moon excited for today is the new Project Life app!!!  It is in the app store and has a minimal cost of only $2.99 with some in app purchases available.

So why is it that I am so excited about this app? Well I have shown you how I try to do my project life, by taking pics each week, and using memento to store my information and journaling, then I use pic frame and upload all my pictures each week to walgreens. That part I usually am very good about remembering to do.

What I am not so good at doing is getting the photos actually INTO the albums. It is not a hard or complicated process or even time consuming. Why it is so hard is all of my scrapbooking stuff is in my stamp room in the basement and I just don't get down there as often as I want. So it never fails, I pic up my printed pics and I have tons leftover because I have printed at any size I think I may want or I don't have the right size picture even after doing that.

This app helps that!! I have been using a printable PL sheet in my daytimer up until the app came out which was nice because I could kind of sort of plan the layout in advance and have all the journaling notes right there with it. But I couldn't really see where the pics would be, I would just have a note in the space.

This was my insert in my planner. I don't have any notes in any of the picture spots yet because the week was not over and I wasn't sure where I wanted them.

Here is the 2nd page of the layout for last week in the new app.

I can see exactly what size pic I want in what spot and change it if I want to. This way I don't waste extra money printing pictures I don't need.  I am very excited to use this app. I know many people will do their entire pages and print them. I think it will just be a sort of planning guide for me. Not even sure the cards I put on there are what I will end up using on the layout  but it's nice to have them.

Stampin' Up products that are already compatible with Project Life!

So we still have a few days before even demos are allowed to order the new Project Life items, but there are already some things Stampin' Up! carries that are compatible with PL! There are even more but washi tape and the rotary stamps are a great addition to any project life kit!  If you are into digital there are even some digital washi tapes!

And our washi tapes are very economical! Only $4.95 for 3 rolls! I know I have seen washi tape in the big box stores and they want that for 1 roll.

If you are interested in any of the items you see just click on the photos for more information.

Getting Started with Project Life

Project Life can be a very simple way to scrapbook all of your memories. Most of us now have phones with a camera on them and that is how 90% or more of all our photos are taken.  Only once in awhile do we have our "good" cameras with us.  And most of the time the pictures I take on my phone are not ones I would deem "scrap-able", but they are the pictures that truly show what is going on in our lives. I have over 700 photos on my phone. I take pictures of all kinds of things. And so does my daughter. I sometimes look at my phone and have over 20 photos of her just making faces at it. I want to get these moments into my albums as well and project life is perfect for this!

Basic project life protectors come with different slot orientations for photos and have journaling cards and things to add to them. Below is a sample of some of the different combinations of protectors. You just print and add your photos in the spaces provided then fill in with journaling or small photos.

Other than starting out with a basic PL kit (album, protectors, and card inserts) I would suggest a couple apps for your phone as well. These are not necessary but they make it even easier (if that's possible) to get your photos into your albums. The first app is Momento (I believe this is only an iphone app right now, but their are others available for android).  This app is like a journal for your phone and it also pulls your feeds from your facebook and other social media sites. Yes, you could use any other journal app but along with letting you add all your little moments if you are just adding it and want to use a photo on your phone that you maybe don't remember the exact date it was taken, when you click the photo it asks if you want to use the date/time the photo was taken as its date! That feature alone is completely awesome! So many times I take photos and then when I go to do my layouts I can't remember when it was taken. Sure I may know the general week I took it (not usually, lol) but this adds the EXACT day and time! The other thing I am loving about this is it has reminders for a daily photo so you remember to document something, and it pops up a reminder asking "how was your day" as a journaling prompt so that if you are as forgetful as me, you still will be able to jot down anything that happened that you want to remember!

The second app you need is PICFRAME. This app works so great with your phone. Project life has 4x6 and 6x4 photo slots along with 3x2 and 2x3 and with picframe you do not need to use a computer program such as photoshop to put two photos on one 4x6 picture to be printed.

Here is a screen shot of picframe and some of the layouts it has.  The highlighted one is the one I use most often. If you can look close in the top right corner of the picframe photo you can see it says 3:2 that is the ratio you want to add two photos for a 4x6. If your photos are more horizontal click the 3rd little block and make sure your ratio is 2:3.

They will print on a 4x6 picture together and you can leave the little border or get rid of it. Then all I do is cut them apart and round the edges if I want.

I also keep the walgreens app on my phone and upload the photos to walgreens at the end of each week for my project life albums.

To simplify it even more, I keep all these apps in one folder on my homescreen of my phone so that are all together and easily accessible.

Becky Higgins and Project Life are joining Stampin' Up!

Can you tell how extremely excited I am for this?  Awhile back I done a post where I was starting project life and wanted to use SU products to do this. Admittedly I was not very good about doing that or keeping up with it. The pre-made products are just so much easier and quicker to use!  So last year I broke down and was doing my PL album with a Becky Higgins kit and was pretty good about keeping up with it. At least for awhile that is. I know for many of you, you are familiar with Project Life and how it works but for those who are not, you are GOING TO LOVE THIS! It will get all your photos off your phone, instagram, facebook and computer and into albums where you will be able to keep them forever. I am going to try to do at least one weekly blog post with project life tips and things per week once the PL items are available starting next month so make sure you keep checking back.
