Candy cane lane

I know I have already said I LOVE this Candy Cane Lane dsp but I have to say it again.  I LOVE this paper!!! It is so pretty and so easy to make such a beautiful card.  That's probably the number one thing I love about Stampin' Up! They come up with papers and stamp sets that coordinate so well it makes me look brilliantly creative even when I'm not.

This card uses a crumb cake card base, real red background layer and then a 3 3/4x 5 white layer with a strip of 2 1/2x 5 dsp layered on the top half.  I cut two houses from the dsp to add to my scene and stamped a greeting in early espresso from the Tin of Tags stamp set. I added a piece of white to the inside so I could write and stamped a little candy.   After I added some dazzling details to the snow on the roofs I was done.

Don't forget that there is a great sale going on right now at Stampin' Up! on
designer series paper
and some other great things for World Card making day (which was October 1st!)

Easy Holiday Treat Containers

My friend and fellow demo are doing FREE card making classes at the local community center on Mondays and this week I brought samples in to show them how they can make easy little treat containers for kids parties or just for fun.

Many of you have made or at least seen the sour cream containers before, but just encase you haven't, here are the ones I made.

Of course these use some of my favorite stamps from the Holiday Catalog. I just can't stop using that Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp set and the Cookie Cutter halloween set is just as cute! Just by changing the paper and the little person on the front you can have treats for all the different upcoming holidays. I was going to add a bat to that Mummy one but I forgot, lol.

I will put directions on later but you can find many on Pinterest.

The paper size is 4 1/2x 6 for these which makes them a tad bit smaller but they still hold a decent amount of candy and there is not much wasted paper.

I spy ornaments

These have been all over the internet in the last couple years so it is nothing new, but my kids loved them last year and I am making up some for an upcoming craft fair so thought I would show you how I was boxing them up.

I made my box from cherry cobbler cardstock and used crumb cake for the insert and the lid. The stocking paper was an old piece of scrap paper I had laying around. (Can't stand to cut up a new sheet for that little strip!!)

Most of my ornaments were glass balls from Hobby Lobby but I was worried about breaking so these are actually plastic bulbs from Dollar Tree and you get 2 for $1.00 so you can make them for family pretty cheap. The only other thing I had to buy was the little beads that I used to put inside. You could use a multitude of other things but I liked these little beads. They came from Hobby Lobby also. The assorted buttons are from my huge stash that I have managed to collect but never use.

Here is a close up showing the insert that is in the box and it has a cut out that the ornament actually rests in so it doesn't move around much.  The directions for the box came from youtube and can be seen here https://youtu.be/JE89A5OmHX0.

Don't forget to enter my contest that is going on through October 7th!  If you have not yet done so, you can check out the details on the post from Monday. It is really easy to enter.

Also don't forget about the wonderful paper sale going on this month! Stock up while you can! I wonder if I get 4 or 8 more packs of the beautiful Christmas paper if I would be able to cut it for strips for my box, lol.  I can't be the only one who hates to cut into a sheet of pretty paper.

Don't be a cotton headed Ninny-nuggins

A card and a contest!

I am certainly starting to get in the Christmas spirit. Yes, I know it is only October and we have quite a few holidays between now and then but when you have to prepare for craft shows and Christmas Card classes, you start working pretty early on Christmas cards.  The card today came from another demonstrator on Pinterest and reminds me of one of my favorite Christmas movies. Bet you can't guess what it is...............

If you couldn't guess, the movie is Elf, but that is not the contest lol. Bet you thought you were going to get off easy.

So what is the contest? Well I have a Christmas giveaway going on and it will end October 7th.  All you need to do to win is comment and tell me how many times I used the word Christmas in this blog post and what your favorite Christmas movie is.  How simple is that?

Don't forget that there is a great sale going on right now at Stampin' Up! on designer series paper and some other great things for World Card making day (which was yesterday!) Did you know that?

Year in Review

2013 is almost over. I am always a little sad at the passing of a year and start of a new. The kids are getting older and many things didn't get done that I would have liked to have finished. At the start of last year I wanted to do a project life album. I started out fairly strong and I think I completed it until April. After that NOTHING! Then at the beginning of December I had intentions to do a December Daily album with all the pictures from this month. How do you think that is going? I have not done one page. I do have the album, the inserts and embellishments and have taken notes for some of the days, but I didn't get pictures of every day.  So now I am trying to determine how to do better and stay on track for project life next year and if I should just go ahead and do a December Daily album this year with the few pictures I do have.

I think the biggest obstacle is not getting my pictures printed. I take 99% of my pictures each week with my phone. That helps me get more taken because it is always with me but most of them are not what I would normally consider scrapbook worthy. I made the decision last year that I didn't care about that. The kids don't care about the photography and just would like to look back and see their photos. I even lost my good camera in the pool last year when we went to Disney.  I got another nice camera this past fall but have not used it much since they are so bulky.

So if you do project life or are one of those people that are great about getting your pictures printed, help me figure out a system that will work for me. Give me your tips, tricks and anything that has helped you to get the pictures off your phone and computer and into your albums! And would you do the December Daily album anyway even if you only had about 12 pictures to use? Or would you just put them in your regular album?

This picture is blurry but it was taken in December and will go in my December Daily album if I decide to do it.

All month the cat has been good and just laid under the tree, but after I added presents Christmas eve he must have thought it was too crowded under there and decided he would lay IN the tree instead.

Digital Download Tuesday!

Some really cute new digi downloads today!   Do you have MDS? Do you use it much?  I have MDS and photoshop and I have used some of the MDS downloads in both. I will say I like the convenience of making a card front on MDS but have really not printed any out. I do a little digital scrapbooking but not lately. So what do I use MDS for?  Newsletters, flyers and things for my stampin' up! business and also for school flyers, emails, craftshows and more. It is great to have these images and sayings in a digital format. If you have not tried MDS, contact me today to find out how you can get started!
